Atlas of Living Australia (ALA)

A national biodiversity data repository where open and some partial data from WildObs may be shared as occurrence records or tagged images.

Creative Commons (CC) license

A standardised license allowing flexible data usage rights. 

Curation (of data)

The process of organising, standardising, and enhancing data quality for usability. 

Digital Object Identifier (DOI)

A permanent identifier for datasets, ensuring citation stability.

EcoSounds

A repository for environmental audio recordings.

Embargo period

A period during which access to species detections is restricted before transitioning to an open public sharing option. 

FAIR Principles: A framework ensuring data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

Institutional Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

A formal agreement outlining data-sharing terms between WildObs and an organisation.

Metadata (of a dataset)

Descriptive information about a dataset, including spatial-temporal extent and contributor details.

Persistent Identifier (PID, of a WildObs dataset)

An internal identifier for datasets stored within WildObs before DOI assignment.

Species detections

Structured records from camera trap detections, typically stored in spreadsheet format in a database. These can be used to create detection histories when combined with the time and location of images.
